- Born on 21st, Jan 1910 at Channapatna, Karnataka
- Early education in Mysore
- MBBS from Bombay in 1933 (with 10 gold medals)
- LRCP and MRCS 1936 (England)
- FRCS in 1937 (England)
- Served Mysore state as Asst. Surgeon, Asst. Professor Surgery in 1940 and then Professor & HOD surgery Mysore Medical College from 1945-1947
- Had special interest in Neurosciences and Renal calculi
- Served as Professor & HOD Sugery and Dean at GR Medical college, Gwalior from 1947-1964
- Served AIIMS, New Delhi as Professor & HOD Surgery 1964-1972
- Scientist emeritus ICMR 1972-1975
- He was honoured by President of INDIA by conferring "PADMASHREE " on 26th JAN 1971
- A keen lover of sports and played Hockey abd Cricket in his college days
- He was president of ASI for 2 years, 1962-1963
- Dr. B.N.B. Rao Oration in ASI started in 2000
- passed away on 7-march-1995.
